The company Energiedienste is located near the Swiss border in Wyhlen near Basel at the historic hydroelectric power station. In order to define the Energiedienste campus for the future, a competition was held for a visitor and workshop building, which also focused on the further development of the entire campus. In addition to the historic hydroelectric power plant, Energiedienst AG also sees solar energy as an important part of its business in the future. The design by Steimle Architekten therefore aims to implement a solar building that focuses on the presentation and experience of photovoltaics.
The roof, which is completely south-facing, becomes the guiding principle of the house. Covered with various photovoltaic systems, the visitor center is not just a shell for exhibition, it is exhibition itself and makes energy generation a direct experience.
Visitors, employees and workshops are arranged on 3 levels and are oriented towards the Rhine and the energy campus with their views.
