Against the context of the historical location and the special significance of the Sachsenhausen Memorial, an architectural concept was developed that deliberately adopts a sensitive approach and conveys an atmosphere of respect, tranquillity and sensitivity. The design comprises two neutral, light-coloured buildings, which appear almost contemplative thanks to their simple, calm architecture. Their calm geometry, size and orientation towards the historical axes – especially in relation to the former SS administration building – position themselves discreetly into the surroundings.

A large transparent roof provides a protected place of arrival. The path of arrival is interpreted as a transition from everyday life to the historical context – a deliberately created threshold space that does not instruct, but prepares. The two buildings are not intended to be dominant symbols, but rather spaces for information, dialogue and reflection. Their design follows the idea of a clear, open background – a space that conveys orientation and attitude through its neutrality, without interpreting. This creates a calm presence that makes room for people, content and memories.

Together, they form a subtle architectural framework that preserves the dignity of the place through light, proportions, materiality and deliberate restraint – while at the same time offering a contemporary, functional infrastructure for information, education and remembrance.
