With the Kulturforum as a new connecting urban building, the town of Königsbrunn has a unique opportunity to create a shared meeting place for its citizens that creates a sense of identity. The conversion of the former dilapidated Königsbrunn thermal baths and ice rink is based on a forward-looking approach to the circular economy. The guiding principle is to value what already exists and transform it into an innovative building, taking into account the existing grey energy and sustainability goals. An urban mining concept uses demolition projects in the city as a source of raw materials. This not only contributes to resource efficiency, but also creates sustainable quality. A modular façade, which calms the cityscape as a connecting, uniform band, gives the heterogeneous building a new look. The project offers added value not only for users, but also for the general public and public space. Through targeted, well-considered interventions in the existing buildings, the former Königstherme is filled with new life, creating a lively forum with a variety of open spaces.
