The new Kulturforum in Königsbrunn tackles the challenges of our time and thinks about architecture in terms of cycles.
The dilapidated thermal baths and the neighboring ice rink are being turned into a real-life laboratory for urban mining.
The guiding principle is to value what already exists and transform it into an innovative building. Wherever possible, the existing gray energy is to be preserved. Potential is identified and valued. The existing structure is only supplemented where necessary. The urban mining concept uses demolition projects in the city as a source of raw materials. A modular façade, which reshapes the cityscape as a connecting, uniform band, clad the heterogeneous structure. The Königsbrunn Forum demonstrates a sustainable approach to existing buildings and resources, which, through targeted use and well-considered interventions, creates a new but familiar place for the people of Königsbrunn.
